The Gate City Police officers patrol the town and respond to local emergencies. The office can be reached at (276) 386-6363. For non-emergency situations, contact dispatch at (276) 386-9111. For emergencies, residents should call 911.

Communication and Information is Very Important – There is nothing faster and more up close and personal than a Text Message in our American Society

Have you ever wanted to get Scott County Information in Real Time…Who wants to wait for OLD News. This is a courtesy free service that will allow me, John Puckett Sheriff of Scott County the ability to send you a Text Message with information on important things happening in real time right here in Scott County.

You will be getting direct information from me or my office. Many of our Scott County Citizens do not have email, live in remote areas of the County, are working and do not have access to TV or Radio, and so are unable to get information. Almost everyone has a cell phone and can receive a text message. This service gives my office the ability to get you factual information quickly as its happening.

As your Sheriff, I and am working to bring new innovative ways to communicate with the Citizens of Scott County in our efforts to Protect and Serve you.

You can download our new information App on your smart phone by simply going to this website http://SCSOAlerts.info and then select “Add to Home Screen” from your menu, and the App will go on your phone. You can also go to the website on a computer, tablet or mobile device and click on “Join SCSO Text Alert System” then type in your cell phone area code and number, then click “Submit” and its done. You will then get Text Alerts when we have information to get to you.

There is other communication features in the App to enjoy. Here is the best part…Not only do you get Real Time information directly from Your Sheriff…It is NOT costing any Tax Payer Money or County Money to fund this program. It is fully funded and sponsored by Scott County Businesses who are also helping to make our County a better place to live, work and raise our families. You will receive Sponsor texts periodically to give recognition to these local businesses who help make this possible. Text Services are completely private and at no time can anyone access or see the opted in phone numbers.

Gate City Fire Department

We are a one station fire department, that is ran with a 100% volunteer crew. Our department consist of 24 active firefighters. Our jurisdiction covers the town of Gate City, VA, and portions of Scott County, VA, outside of the town limits. In total we serve an area of approximately 89.5 square miles with an estimated population of 5,000 citizens, while also providing mutual aid to our neighboring departments when requested. Our department works and trains hard so the we can fulfill our mission statement to the best of our ability by being knowledgeable, professional, and having the drive to protect and serve others.
